The Carbon Dinos basketball season came to an end with a loss ti the Morgan Trojans in the opening round of the state tournament Saturday Morning in Orem.

Tied 11-11 at the end of the opening quarter, the Trojans outscored Carbon 22-6 in the second period to put the game out of the reach.

Morgan used a 22-6 second quarter to put the game out of reach running the score to 40-17 at the half. Led by senior Derek Hillam who recorded a double-double 23 points and 10 rebounds in his final game as a Dino, Morgan got Carbon out of their game plan early and never looked back. Senior Ty Anderson added 10 points and 4 rebounds as he and Hillam were the only two Dinos to score in double figures and only four players total scored for Carbon.

For Morgan sophomore Sam Hansen led the way with 11 points and junior Carter Thackeray had 10 in a balanced offensive attack by the Trojans as 12 players scored and they shot 58% from the field and 66% from the free throw line. The Morgan team didn’t necessarily blow you away with stats, as the final score would suggest but they were efficient in scoring.

As for the Dinos this brings to an end an up and down season, riddled with injuries to key players the Dinos look to next season as they will lose five seniors including Hillam and Anderson, Jon Zamantakis, Collin Lewis and Braxton Bennett. Carbon will look to the juniors from this years team Kaleb Nelson and Nick Olson as well as sophomores Preston Condie and Caleb Winfree.

Although the Boys season is over, Carbon is still in the hunt as the girls team will take on Richfield at the Sevier Valley Center on Thursday at 7:30 pm. You can catch all the action on KRPX 95.3 The Peak, or stream live at castlecountryradio.com.
