The Carbon Dinos moved to 2-0 in Region 14 play with a dominating 8-2 win over the Providence Hall Patriots Friday afternoon at Carlson-Colosimo Field in Price.

Playing at the home of the USU Eastern Eagles rather than the typical setting in Helper at Ernie Gardner Field, the Dinos were spectacular offensively. Scoring in the first four frames, Carbon leaped out to an 8-0 lead in the eventual win.

Freshman Keaton Rich earned the win on the mound, striking out seven, while allowing just one hit in 4.1 innings of work. Kaleb Nelson, Ty Anderson and Collin Lewis all made relief appearances as the Dinos completed the season series sweep of the Patriots.

Carbon’s offense delivered a large dose of run support for it’s pitching committee by registering eight hits and seven RBIs. Lewis ended 2-4 at the plate with one home run and two RBIs. Ty Anderson finished 3-4 with one triple and two RBIs, while also stealing one base.

Friday’s region win places Carbon in a three-way-tie with Union and Juab at the top of the Region 14 standings. All three teams swept their opening series, leaving Providence Hall, American Leadership and Delta 0-2 to open league play.

Carbon will now return to the field on Saturday for a double-header at Utah Valley University. The non-region games will place the Dinos against West Lake and Orem.

The next divisional game will take place Tuesday on the road against American Leadership.
