The Carbon Dinos and Emery Spartans will square off in a state playoff game at Juan Diego High School on Thursday in Draper.
The two teams played each other in the regular season with Carbon coming out on top 11-3 on April 15 in Castle Dale.
On May 4 the Dinos played in the first round of the state playoffs going 1-1. In the first game they defeated Morgan 8-7. In the second game that day Carbon faced the host team Richfield and were handed a 13-6 loss dropping them into the one loss bracket of the tournament.
On the same day Emery was in action at Juab High School in Nephi. They lost their first game to Summit Academy 14-0. In the second round they faced a familiar foe in the Grand Red Devils, they defeated them by a score of 3-2 setting up the match-up with Carbon.
“I feel like Carbon and Emery are a lot of the same team”, said Spartan coach Rob Smith. “It just kinda depends on who show’s up, who has four or less errors, kinda what I’ve been preaching all year.” He went on to say,”Some games we hit really well, some games we don’t, from everything I’ve looked at with Carbon, I feel they’re kind of the same way.”
In the April game the Dinos sent four pitchers to the mound and the game was quiet until the fifth inning when Carbon broke it open scoring six runs on their way to the victory.
“Emery is a good ball team”, Carbon coach Jeff Cisneros replied when asked about facing the Spartans. “I mean we were fortunate to win that game , and I know they’re going to give us everything they have tomorrow, and you know I hope my guys give them everything that we have.”
The game will be broadcast on KOAL 107.3 FM and 750 AM, you can also stream the game live at castlecountryradio.com beginning at 1 pm.
