The Carbon Lady Dinos opened the 2020 golf season with a third-place finish Thursday afternoon at the Cove View Golf Course in Richfield.

Ending with a team score of 409, the Lady Dinos finished just four-strokes back of second place Emery. Richfield protected their home course with a dominating 96-stroke win after firing an outstanding 309. South Sevier, Grand and San Juan rounded out the field of six.

“It wasn’t the start we wanted, but we got our benchmark,” said head coach Kenji Otani following the meet. “We know what to work on and look forward to improving over the season.”

Senior Jordan Bianco posted the team low score with an 83, which places her fifth overall in the individual standings. Kirsten Etzel logged a 101, while Rhiannon Timmons finished with a 103. Savanna Rasmussen and Makalah Gomez tied for the fourth score at 122.

Bianco’s 83 places her just eight-strokes back of Richfield’s Ellie Hair, who currently holds the top spot in the region after shooting a 75. The top four spots belong to Richfield players after the season opener.
“Jordan played well. The girls never gave up and for four of them this is the first 18-holes they have ever played,” said Otani. “I wish we would have played better, but I’m proud of the effort.”

The Lady Dinos will take the remainder of the weekend off before returning to Region 12 play on Monday in Moab. Thursday, March 19 will mark the lone home meet for the season.
