Recently, Carbon County sold the old senior citizens building which was the home of the Boys & Girls Club for the last few years. Now the organization is looking for a new location and hopes that the community can lend a helping hand in finding some new digs. Castle Country Radio sat down with the President and CEO for Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Salt Lake, LeAnn Saldivar to talk about what the organization is looking for in a new location.

“Certainly, we have been appreciative of the generosity of the county and the commissioners. Having a location that is provided at no cost to the Boys & Girls Club is an outstanding partnership that we’ve enjoyed all these years and we understand the need of the county to move on and do what they needed to do with that building. But we certainly cannot lose this amenity for these kids. It means a great deal to the families and the kids that we serve,” said Saldivar. The organization’s annual enrollment runs around 250 children per year, with a daily average of 45 to 75 children per day depending on the season.

The organization offers after-school and summer programs to school-aged children.  “We serve kids from first grade clear through high school and that’s our job is to get kids successfully through school, graduated on time, with a plan of what they are going to do after college and we need the space to do that in and we don’t want to see that program die in Carbon County,” said Saldivar. Kids and teens who regularly attend the club do better than their peers socially and academically.

Right now, the Boys & Girls Club is in need of a new location with lots of space. “We do need large open space, game room style space for pool tables, ping pong, that kind of thing and sort of multiple gathering classroom type spaces. We have a technology lab. We do a number of small group and prevention programs, and have space for kids to sit down, focus and do their homework,” explained Saldivar. A business or building owner could use this opportunity to have an unoccupied building used for the greater good. A location that could adequately separate the younger children from the high school students would be ideal. If you know of a location that could suit the needs of the Boys & Girls Club please contact LeAnn Saldivar at (801) 322-4411.
