The USU-Extension Office 4-H department is looking forward to another full month of events and activities taking place during August. Castle Country Radio was able to invite 4-H Coordinator, DeLayna Barr to the studio to talk about the August 4-H calendar.
“Well, we first have a Mountain Bike Camp and this is teen led by a teen and he is going to do this come August 3 and we want to get interest and have kids come out and he’s going to teach some safety and some skills,” said Barr. Youth-Leader Craig Olson will host this event at the Dino Mine Park Pump Track on August 3 from 9:00 am to 10:30 am. This event is open to children ages 8 to 12 years old. A helmet and bike are required, plus sunscreen and water is recommended.
The next event that is sure to be fun is a three-day Tennis Camp held at the Price City Tennis Courts by the Desert Wave Pool. “Pete Riggs from Carbon High is going to do this camp for us and give them the basics of tennis, get them interested so that is also coming up at the tennis courts,” said Barr. This event is scheduled to take place on August 6 and August 7 from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm, then again on August 8 from 8:30 am to 10:30 am. This camp is open to children ages 8 to 18 years old.
On August 11 through August 13 there will be a Babysitting Camp for ages 8 years old and older. “Oh the funnest things that they’re going to learn and do and have projects in a kit will learn the safety and care of kids,” said Barr. This camp will take place at the USU-Extension Office Classroom at 751 East 100 North, Suite 1700 in Price. Other topics that will be covered in the camp will be safety guidelines, recipes, games, and first aide kit.
The Grab & Go Projects will continue for during the month of August, as Barr explains, “A lot of these are STEM oriented and they’re just really fun. The first one we have coming up in August is UV Buddy Beads. I think they get to make a bracelet but once they take them outside they change colors. There’s just so many different things they can sign up for to get in some of that STEM learning and see how these things work together.” STEM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics which is curriculum that creates critical thinkers.
