The Emery Spartan volleyball team returned the the Spartan Center on Tuesday night. The Spartans hadn’t taken to the floor since October of last year and Emery came out ready for the Manti Templars. The Lady Spartans were on cruise control and won the match in straight sets.

The Spartans are coming off an 8-23 finish last year and losing in the second round of the State Championship Tournament to eventual 3A State Champion Union. Emery returned a good number of starters from last season as they only lost four seniors to graduation. Manti had a very similar path finishing the 2019 campaign with a 5-18 record and losing in the first round of the State Playoffs to Juab.

Although the first two sets were fairly close (25-22 and 25-21) the Spartans came out in the third set and it was all business, taking the victory, 25-13. They allowed only one service ace out of 57 serves.

Leading the way for Emery was junior Madisyn Childs filling in her stat sheet with nine kills, four blocks and two digs. Junior Hallie Winn and senior Bralin Wilde added two kills each. Wilde and junior Baylee Jacobsen had three blocks. Senior Shayleigh Hrienson registered five blocks while seniors Kaymn Childs and Kaejha Jonson as well as junior Brynn Gordon each had three.

Now the Spartans head to the Union tournament this weekend on Friday and Saturday.

They will return to the floor on August 25 when they welcome South Sevier to the Spartan Center. The Match is scheduled to begin at 6:30
