A week after shooting a season high score in Richfield, the Emery Spartans rebounded with a third place finish at the Hideout Golf Course Wednesday afternoon in Monticello.

Led by Tayven Guymon’s team-low 88, the Spartans finished with an overall score 368. While increasing the overall team strokes by three from last week, the end result was two places in higher on the final leaderboard.

“Hideout is similar to Millsite in that you need to find fairways or it will be a long day,” said head coach Kasey Edgehouse. “Our kids didn’t play great, but they were able to minimize damage and come out with a third place finish.”

Richfield continued to power through division play with a second straight first place finish on a score of 347. Grand ended in second with a 361, just topping Emery. Carbon finished fourth, followed by South Sevier and San Juan.

Kavery Killpack logged the second low individual score for Emery with a 92. Both Trevin Wakefield and Devan Guymon ended with a 94 to round out the team scores.

Wednesday’s performance provides a huge bump for Emery in the Region 12 standings. Entering the third meet of the season in fifth place, the Spartans have now leaped past South Sevier for fourth and trail Grand by just 12 strokes.

The region season will now take a full week break before the teams return to competition on Thursday, Sept. 3 at the Carbon Country Club Golf Course. Thursday’s meet will also represent the midway point of the season, which wraps up on Oct. 7 and 8 with the State Championship.

Below are the current Region 12 standings:
