
Mark your calendars for Ferron City’s Peach Days celebration taking place on September 9 through September 12. This annual event is sure to have activities that will appeal to the entire community as Mayor Adele Justice talks with Castle Country Radio about this year’s event.
September 9 will kick off with a Bike Ride at Mayor’s Park at 6:00 pm and everyone is invited to attend. “So the Bike Ride is a family event. We encourage everybody to bring their bikes. Of course, wear your mask if you would like. We will have hand sanitizer, we will have masks, we will have all the items that are needed for the precautions of CONVID. But a bike ride, you can ride your bike pretty well keep your distance,” said Mayor Justice. There will be two options available for the bike ride, a five-mile ride or a one-mile ride. After the completion of the ride, folks will meet back up at the Mayor’s Park for an opportunity drawing for several bicycles to be given away.
Also taking place on this day will be exhibits will be accepted at City Hall from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, then again on Thursday from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. “Exhibits is something that’s been a part of Peach Days from near the beginning. People like to show off the things they’ve been working on and we love showing that stuff off so we have that display in the City Hall,” said Mayor Justice. The exhibits will be open to the public on Friday, September 11 and Saturday, September 12 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
Another great family event will take place on Thursday, September 10 at 6:00 pm which is the Fun Run. There will be several distance options available to participate in or individuals can just walk the race route. The proceeds earned from this event will benefit the Emery High School Cross Country Team. Following the Fun Run there will be a drive-in movie taking place at the Fairgrounds.
Sidewalk Picasso at Mayor’s Park on Friday at 6:00 pm is a great event to show off your artistic skills for a chance at some great prizes that will be awarded. Also taking place at 8:30 pm is the Night Golf at Millsite followed by Fireworks at the Fairgrounds.
On Saturday, September 12 events will begin at 7:00 am with the Field of Flags at the Church on the hill. “It is probably, again, one of our popular events, our American Legion and Auxiliary do a program and they do the 21-gun salute at sunrise, and then you can just walk through our display of over 400 American Flags,” explained Mayor Justice. Following the flag presentation will be the Car Show at the Fire Station at 10:00 am till 3:00 pm, with awards given at 2:00 pm.
There will be a food truck round up that is set to begin at 10:00 am running throughout the afternoon for folks to enjoy a tasty treat. The annual Cornhole Tournament will take place at Mayor’s Park at 1:00 pm, and the Color Dance will start at 5:00 pm where participants can buy bags of color for $1.00. Peach Days will close the festivities out with a light parade beginning at 9:00 pm.
