The Carbon Lady Dinos earned a monumental 2-1 victory over the Emery Lady Spartans Tuesday afternoon at Carbon High School.

Tied 0-0 at the end of the first half, both teams found offensive success in the final stanza. For Carbon it was junior Molly Banks and sophomore Kinley Cowdell who found the back of the net to secure the win.

Entering as the lone unbeaten team in Region 12, the Lady Spartans held a one-game lead over both Carbon and Richfield for first place. Last week Emery took sole possession of first place after topping Richfield, who had recently defeated Carbon.

Tuesday’s result sets the stage for what should be a fascinating second go-around of league play. Carbon, Richfield and Emery all knotted up at 4-1, the three teams will have to play each other one more time, which could determine the region champion.

Carbon is now the highest ranked Region 12 team as they have now climbed to No. 6 in the latest RPI. The loss dips Emery to No. 10.

The region season will continue for both teams when they return to the field on Thursday night.

Emery will welcome in Grand for the second meeting this season. The first one ended in favor of Emery 3-2.

Carbon will travel on the road to meet the South Sevier Rams. The first matchup between the two teams ended in blowout fashion as the Lady Dinos walked away with an 8-0 win.
