The Emery Spartans are nearing the end of the volleyball season. With less than a month left until the 3A State Championship Tournament starts, Emery will need to pick up some wins to improve their RPI ranking. Tuesday night they were in Vernal to face the Uintah Utes. The Spartans would keep it close but would fall in four sets.

Emery is sitting at 6-9 overall and 2-5 in region play, they are also ranked No. 12 in the RPI. The Utes on the other hand sit at 13-3 and 8-0 in Region 10 in the 4A ranks they also hold the No.1 ranking in the RPI for that class.

Emery came out and dropped the first set 25-17. The Spartans would come back in set number two, to claim the 25-18 victory. Uintah would take the final two sets 25-10 and 25-18 and the match 3-1.

The Spartans have just three matches left starting with this Thursday when they welcome the Carbon Dinos to Castle Dale. Carbon sits at 13-3 and 5-2 in region as well as No. 5 in the RPI. Back on September 3rd the two teams met up in Price and it was Carbon who took that match in straight sets.

After Carbon they will travel to San Juan (5-10, 0-6 and No.17 ) before ending the season at home against Richfield (11-7, 5-1 and No.6 ) on October 20th.

The game against the Dinos will take place in the Spartan Center and is set to start at 6:30 p.m..
