With only two weeks remaining in the high school football season the Emery Spartans remain inside the top 10 of UHSAA RPI rankings.
Tied for the best record in the classification the Juab Wasps currently hold the No.1 ranking. North Sanpete, after suffering a loss to Juab, is No. 2, followed by Summit Academy. Richfield and Morgan round out the top five.
After winning three consecutive games to open Region 12 play, Emery comes in at No. 10. The Spartans have dropped three spots over the past three weeks despite winning every game since the initial rankings.
The Carbon Dinos have dropped to No. 17 after accumulating a 1-7 record during the season, including a 0-3 mark in league play.
Region 12 is still well represented in the rankings as Richfield, San Juan and Emery are all ranked inside the top 10.
The RPI standings will be updated following every contest throughout the remainder of the season. In a field consisting of 17 teams, the top 16 will qualify for the state playoffs, which begin the final week of October.
The RPI standings are determined by three statistically categories:
*MWP (Modified Winning Percentage): Divide the number of possible points by the number of total available points from games played accounting for the adjustment between classifications.
*OWP (Opponents Winning Percentage): Average of the winning percentage of a team’s opponent.
*OOWP (Opponents’ Opponents Winning Percentage): Same process as OWP except the calculation is with the opponents of the team’s opponent.
Both Emery and Carbon will return to the football field Friday. The Spartans will travel to meet the Richfield Wildcats, while the Dinos will play on the road against the San Juan Broncos in Blanding.
