
The Pinnacle Panthers baseball season came to an end with a 1-1 finish at the 1A State Championship Tournament Friday and Saturday in Spanish Fork.
Entering the tournament as the No. 12 seed, the Panthers squared with No. 13 Tintic Friday afternoon. The Panthers were dominate throughout, easing their way to an 8-1 win and advancing into the second round Saturday morning.
Saturday’s win-or-go-home contest would match the Panthers with No. 5 seed Panguitch. The meeting was the third of the season between the two schools, with Panguitch winning the first two.
Despite a solid effort all the way around the Panthers would fall 9-2, ultimately ending the season. The win for Panguitch places them in the final eight, which will resume Tuesday morning.
The Panthers wrap up their first season under head coach Ray Jones with a record of 5-16. Key moments on the season include a two-game sweep of Green River, outscoring the Pirates 29-1, plus wins over Tabiona and Diamond Ranch.
