The Carbon and Emery County Senior Centers have been closed to activities and events but are still providing mobile meals to seniors in both counties. Director, Robbie Jensen took time to speak with Castle Country Radio about how the centers are working through COVID restrictions.
“Things are still the same, all of our doors are closed but we are still doing mobile meals for those that are on the mobile meal routes, and they are able to come up to the center to pick up meals on the day that we serve meals,” said Jensen. The hours to pick up a meal from the centers vary between each county.
“In Emery County, Mondays we will be serving meals at Emery, Ferron and Huntington Senior Centers. They can come pick up a meal at those centers at noon when they normally come to pick up their meals. Then on Tuesdays they can come to the Castle Dale center again at noon to pick up those meals,” explained Jensen. Those seniors living in the Green River area can pick up meals on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. As for the seniors in the Carbon County area, which includes the East Carbon center, they can pick up meals Monday through Thursday from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm.
Anyone over the age of 60 years old is eligible to receive mobile meals. “Anyone that is 60 years or older that wants to receive mobile meals, we can qualify them. We just ask that they follow the same rules that are in place for all of the others and let us know when they are not going to be home so we can not use our time to deliver to someone who is not home,” stated Jensen. Interested individuals can contact the Carbon Senior Center at (435) 636-3202 to see if they qualify for the mobile meals program.
The Senior Center has adjusted their hours to reflect the upcoming holidays and they wanted to be sure to share that with listeners. “So over here in Price, we’re normally open Monday through Thursday, and since Christmas falls on a Friday, we are going to take our Friday holiday on Wednesday. So for the week of Christmas, as well as New Years, we will be closed the Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of that week,” said Jensen. Emery County centers will be open Monday through Wednesday and closed Thursday and Friday for the holidays.
The Carbon and Emery County Senior Centers would like to wish everyone in the community a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
