The Lady Pirates from Green River have won five of their last seven games and looked to win three in a row at home against Monticello on Thursday night. Green River took the lid off this one early taking a 35-12 lead at the half and continued their march to a 64-27 victory.

This was the second meeting between the two teams this season, back on December 10 the Pirates were on the road and claimed the 62-23 win behind 22 points from Taylnn Lovato.

Lovato would once again lead the Pirates in scoring this time around with 23 while Abby Erwin added 15  and Morgan Bastian added 11. Lovato has been a scoring machine this season averaging 16.6 ppg. and has really been coming on of late scoring 19.4 ppg. in the last seven games alone.

The Pirates are at 8-5 now and No. 6 in the RPI that is put together by the Utah High School Activities Association. The rankings are used for seeding in the State Championship Tournament that will begin February 25. With only four games left on the schedule for the regular season the Lady Pirates are in good shape the rest of the way.

The next time they will take the floor is on Tuesday February 2nd, when they make the trip to Price to face the Pinnacle Panthers. Last year the Pirates swept both games against Pinnacle.

The Panthers are winners of three of their last four games and are recently coming off a lopsided loss to Wendover 73-17.

After the game on Tuesday, Green River will have games at Tintic and Gunnison Valley before they wrap up the season on February 19 at home against Pinnacle.
