Coming off an 0-2 showing at the St. George tournament last weekend , the Carbon Dinos soccer squad returned home to face the Waterford Academy Ravens on Tuesday coming up just short, the Dinos fell 3-2.

Waterford is a school from the Sandy area that plays in the 2A Northern Division. Back in 2019 the Ravens went 14-2-1 and made it all the way to the quarterfinals of the State 2A Championship Tournament.

The Dinos have gotten off to a slow start this season but there is still plenty of soccer to be played between now and playoff time.

The two teams went back and forth in the first half going into the break tied at 1-1. In the second half, Waterford found a way to take the lead and never looked back holding the Dinos to a single goal in the half.

Payton Black and Eli Beecher each scored a goal in the loss for the Dinos.

One positive that Carbon can look to is the fact that their next four games, all region match-ups are at home. Up first, Thursday they welcome the Emery Spartans to Price. Due to the shortened season last year these two teams never got to face each other in 2020.

After the contest with Emery on Thursday Carbon will have home matches with Richfield, Grand and San Juan, before they head back on the road on April 8.

The match with Emery will take place on the soccer field at Carbon High School and is scheduled to begin at 4 pm.
