The Emery Spartan soccer team opened the season with a 3-2 win over Gunnison Valley and then they headed south to take part in the St. George tournament last weekend coming home with a 2-2-1 record. On Tuesday they welcomed a region opponent South Sevier to Castle Dale and claimed another victory 5-3.

This was the second region contest the Spartans have had already this season. In the St. George tournament they battled Richfield to a 2-2 tie.

In Tuesday’s match with the South Sevier Rams the Spartans jumped out to an early 3-0 halftime lead. The Rams would fight back to score three goals in the second half and Emery would counter with two more to secure the lead and move their record to 3-2-1.

Kaden Westenskow, Tayvan Guyman, Carsen Childs, Colten Childs and Jesus Ayulla all scored goals for the Spartans in the victory.

For the Rams it was Caleb Jenkins, Julio Djuses and Blake Vellinga with one goal each.

The Spartans will face off with the Carbon Dinos on Thursday in Price. The Dinos are coming off a tough loss to the Waterford Academy Ravens on Tuesday 3-2.

The match is scheduled to start at 4pm.
