The Emery Spartans used 22 hits to collect 19 runs to take the win over Grand in Moab on Tuesday, making it their largest offensive output so far this season. scoring nine runs in the first inning the Spartans didn’t let up defeating the Red Devils 19-5 in five innings.

The Spartans headed back to the diamond coming off a successful weekend tournament in Richfield.  Emery is sitting at 5-1 and with the win against Grand are 1-0 in region play.

Starting out with a Jace Mangum single to third that scored Luke Stilson the Spartans were methodical hitting single after single to get runners in scoring position. With the score 4-0, Oakley Alton would score on an error by the third baseman, and Riggs Griffin would advance to third. In the same at bat, Trevin Wakefield would single to right scoring Griffin.  After walking Jax Madsen, Luke Stilson would double to left field bringing home Easton Nielson and Madsen.  Ryker Jensen would come to the plate and hit a single to third scoring Stilson.

The Spartans would score four more runs in the next three innings, they would find more offense in the fifth with singles off of the bats of Tyler Stilson and Griffin and Madsen and triples from Alton and Wakefield which pushed the score to 19-5 and ended the contest after five innings.

Luke Stilson collected three RBIs with two hits and scored two run in the win.  Jax Madsen had two RBIs on two hits while scoring three and five other Spartans had two RBIs and registered at least two hits helping the Spartans to their first conference win of the season.

On the mound Trevin Wakefield got the start and the win for Emery, giving up five runs (four earned) and striking out three while allowing five hits.

The Spartans will now turn around and face a very dangerous Juab team in Nephi on Wednesday. Juab is coming off a 29-28 victory over the weekend in St. George against the Provo Bulldogs. It was the highest scoring game in Utah state history with 460 pitches thrown and clocking in at just over four hours.

They will then turn around on Thursday when they return home to face Grand again, this time in Castle Dale.
