The USU Eastern Softball squad had their eight game winning streak broken by the Salt Lake Community College Bruins on the road over the weekend. The Bruins solidified their No. 2 ranking by taking the four game sweep of the Eagles.

Below is a recap of the weekends games:

Game 1

Loss: 15-2

Utah State Eastern couldn’t get things going in their 15-2 loss against Salt Lake Community College.

SLCC fired up the offense in the first inning scoring two. They took the lead for good in the second inning, after scoring three runs.

Sophomore Nyah DeRyke took the loss for Utah State Eastern. She surrendered ten runs on nine hits over three and a third inning, striking out two.

Utah State Eastern smacked two home runs in the game. Freshman Jenna Sutliff had a homer in the second inning and freshman Morgan Tanner in the second.

Tanner, Sutliff and freshman Madie Luck all had one hit to lead the Eagles.

Game 2

Loss 7-3

Utah State Eastern falls 7-3 against SLCC.

SLCC got things going in the first, scoring two.

Freshman Emma Marchant held them scoreless after that until the fourth inning, when they scored five.

Marchant took the loss for the Eagles. She allowed seven hits and seven runs over six innings, striking out two.

Utah State Eastern went for the long ball once in the game. Freshman Jenna Sutliff hit one out in the fourth inning, scoring three.

Sophomore Josie Hiatt, freshman Minerva CruzMadie Luck, Sutliff and Marisa Bowman each collected multiple hits to lead Utah State Eastern. The Eagles had a slugging percentage of .320.

Game 3

Loss 9-4

Utah State Eastern falls 9-4 to Salt Lake.

Utah State Eastern got on the board early in game three when freshman Jenna Sutliff hit a sac fly, scoring one.

SLCC pulled away for good in the third inning.

Sophomore Nyah DeRyke took the loss for the Eagles. She went six innings, allowing nine runs on seven hits and striking out two.

Freshman Morgan TannerAlex DemingMarisa Bowman sophomore Josie Hiatt and DeRyke all had one hit to lead the Eagles. Utah State Eastern had 32 plate appearances, 25 at bats and a team average of .200.

Game 4
Loss 13-5

Late score costs Utah State Eastern a 13-5 loss against the Bruins.

Utah State Eastern lost the lead late on Saturday. The game was tied at 5 in the fifth inning when SLCC scored one.

The Eagles struggled to put runs on the board. They tied the game up at five in the third innings when freshman Alex Deming doubled, scoring one.

Utah State Eastern notched three runs in the third inning. The Eagles big bats were led by a single by freshman Morgan Tanner and a single by Deming.

Freshman Emma Marchant took the loss for Utah State Eastern, going four and a third inning, allowing 12 hits and 11 runs and walking zero.

Utah State Eastern launched two home runs in the game. Sutliff and Tanner went back to back in the second inning. The Eagles totaled nine hits in the game. Sutliff and Tanner each had multiple hits for Utah State Eastern. Sophomore Josie Hiatt had the most chances in the field with five.

Utah State Eastern had 23 plate appearances, 23 at bats and a team average of .391.
