The Lady Dinos were looking for revenge on Thursday in Spanish Fork when they faced the Grand Red Devils in the second round of the 3A State Championships. The two teams from Region 12 split their regular season match-ups, and were looking forward to the rubber match in the playoffs. Grand jumped out early with a two run home run in the first inning and continued to build on their lead taking the 7-3 victory.

Grand pitcher Jaci Shumway helped her own cause when she stepped up to the plate in the first inning and hit a two run shot to center field, one of three home runs she would hit in the game. In Carbon’s half of the inning Gianna Bruno came up to the plate and sent a single to center to bring home a run.

Bruno would come up with another single to center driving in Makayla Scovill and two batters later a Brooke Moosman single to short brought Lyndsey Madrigal home putting the score at 5-3.  Shumway sent another shot to center in the fifth and Grand added another run in the sixth.

Carbon collected 10 hits in the contest with RBIs coming from the bats of Bruno and Moosman.

Haven Bryerly got the start and took the loss for the Dinos from the mound. Bryerly gave up seven earned runs on six hits and struck out 13 in seven innings.

The set back puts Carbon in the one loss bracket and they will face Providence Hall at 2:30 on Thursday.  A loss would end the season but a win would place them back on the field at 4:45 to face the winner of the Morgan/North Sanpete contest.
