The USU Extension Office along with Castleview Hospital and CARE Coalition presents an evening of Quick and Easy Cooking. This demonstration is shared on Facebook live for all to enjoy and watch. Assistant Professor in Family and Consumer Sciences Christina Pay took time to come into Castle Country Radio to discuss all the details.
The Quick and Easy Cooking had to be put on hold for a bit due to the COVID pandemic but it’s now back up and running again for folks to enjoy. “We took a break and then reformulated and came back to do a Quick and Easy Cooking online Facebook event. Like you said we partnered with Castleview Hospital and the CARE Coalition and together we are presenting this. We give away about five swag bags each show and the hospital usually donates a fun prize – so it pays to watch,” stated Pay.
The next Quick and Easy Cooking event will take place on Wednesday, May 26 at 7:00 pm. “We’re going to do BBQ Chicken Quesadillas. We decided to do these celebrity chefs, we call them celebrity chefs, and just invite people from the community in to show the people that anyone can cook,” stated Pay. There have been officials from the county, city, health department, newspaper, and radio that have been celebrity chefs.
There is always a topic up for discussion when the cooking is taking place. “We have a different topic for each one. We focus on those protective factors that youth need to succeed in life and so we give tips and ideas and discussion on building those protective factors in youth. So that they will stay away from the drugs and the negative things that are out there and become successful adults,” stated Pay.
Now the great thing about the Quick and Easy Cooking courses is that the recipes are listed on the USU Extension Carbon County Facebook page before the event airs. “So if you go to our Facebook page which is Carbon County Extension on Facebook you will see the posting and there will be a link to every recipe that we’re doing that night. So you can take that print it off, or just file it electronically – how ever you do things. You’ll have access to all the recipes that we present,” stated Pay. This allows for participants to purchase their ingredients beforehand so that they can cook along side the celebrity chefs on the show.
