Emery High School senior Alexis Winter signed a National Letter of Intent to play soccer at USU Eastern Monday night at the BDAC in Price.

Winter, a four-year starter for the Lady Spartans, excelled as a midfielder and forward during her high school career. Leading the team in goals scored for each of the past four seasons, Winter became a premiere offensive performer in the 3A classification.

“For years we’ve been watching her play and she is one of the bright lights in this area,” said USU Eastern head coach Jared Woodhouse. “Alexis plays above her competition. She has shown the speed, the strength and understanding of the game. It’s very easy to see that she will be an asset to our team.”

During her four years at Emery High School Winter helped lead the Lady Spartans to the quarterfinals on two separate occasions. Emery gathered a region record of 28-9-1 during that four-year time frame.

Winter will join a program that has had a large amount of success over the past five seasons. In the most recent campaign, USU Eastern climbed to No. 17 in the NJCAA rankings after finishing the regular season 8-3 inside a conference with two other nationally ranked teams.

“I really like Coach Woodhouse and I also love that USU Eastern is close to home,” said Winter when asked why she decided on USU Eastern. “It is really important to me that my family has a chance to come watch me play. I’ve got to watch them play a couple of games and I’m excited to join.”

Winter will join USU Eastern for the upcoming fall semester. Aside from playing soccer, she plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree in communicative disorders and deaf education.
