Emery High School senior Luke Stilson was named to the 3A All-State First Team after a standout 2021 campaign on the baseball diamond.

Stilson led the Spartans this season in hits (35), runs (27) and batting average (.412) as he played in all 23 games. He also finished second on the team in RBIs and knocked one home run as he carried a .505 slugging percentage. Defensively he ended the season with a .944 fielding percentage.

The All-State selection comes following an All-Region nod and an appearance in the Region 12 All-Star game.

“Luke is an example of what it takes to win with work ethic, drive and leadership,” said manager Rob Smith. “He shows up to practice ready to work and make his team better. He challenges his team to work harder day in and day out.”

Fellow senior Jaxton Madsen also garnered All-State recognition as he received an honorable mention.

Madsen was second on the team in hits with 31 and runs with 24. He also posted a .365 batting average from the lead off spot. In 85 at bats this season he struck out only three times in 23 games. In the field on defense he had a .923 fielding percentage.

“Jax is a three sport athlete that leads by example,” said Smith. “He never complains, he just goes out and does the work like he is asked. He was a great lead off hitter and he helped our team put up runs all season.”

The 3A-All State selections were voted on by the coaches throughout the classification.
