
Bode Salas opened the season with a tournament low 77 as the Carbon Dinos finished second overall at the first Region 12 meet of the season Wednesday afternoon at Cedar Ridge in Cedar City.
Ending with a team score of 329, the Dinos ended five strokes back of first place Richfield. The Emery Spartans finished third with a 356, followed by Canyon View and Grand.
Daron Garner logged the second score of the afternoon for Carbon as he shot an 81, placing him in a fourth place tie overall. Kyler Clark was third on the team with an 82, followed by Branden Scovill’s 89. Cole Callahan, Cole Yoklavich, Rydge Butler and Graeden Leautaud also participated, but their final scores were not counted towards the team’s total.
The Richfield Wildcats put together a stellar meet as Keaton Anderson finished one stroke back of Salas for the overall win with a 78. Jaygen Mullen shot an 81, while Jackson Archibald and Dylan Stubbs contributed an 82 and 83 respectively.
Trailing Richfield by just five strokes, the Dinos will have an opportunity to make up ground in the standings when the season continues Tuesday at Quirrh Hills, the site of this year’s state championship.
The regular season will feature a meet each week leading up to the 3A State Championship on Oct. 6 and 7.
