Kosmas Pappas

Kosy (Kosmas) Pappas, passed away on August 17, 2021 in St. George, Utah at the age of 81.  Kosy was born in Price, Utah on June 9, 1940 to Demosthenes and Mary Harokopakis Protopappas.   He was the second of four boys.

Kosy attended Carbon High School, graduating in 1958.  He then attended Carbon College and the University of Utah, receiving his bachelor of science in 1962.   Kosy received his doctor of dental surgery from Marquette University in 1965.  Upon graduating, Kosy joined the U.S. Navy as an Ensign, stationed at Naval Station Great Lakes, Michigan.  After his discharge, Kosy settled in Southern California and set up his first dental practice in West Covina in 1967.   Kosy was also a professor at the UCLA School of Dentistry from 1967-1971.  In the 70s Kosy moved to Corona Del Mar where he purchased his second dental practice.

In 1984, Kosy married Dr. Roselyn Columbo, PhD.  In 2001 Kosy moved his dental practice to Huntington Beach.  He retired from practice in 2015, moving to St. George, Utah.  He was well thought of in the dental community and his patients were very loyal.

Kosy was an outgoing person, always ready with a smile.  During college, he earned money driving the ice cream truck in Price.   The kids all knew him as “ Ice Cream Man” and looked forward to his “bell.”  He was even known to pay for an ice cream if one of the kids couldn’t afford it.  Kosy lived life to the fullest.  He had a passion for the outdoors, fishing, duck hunting, ATV’ing, and riding his bike daily.  He also enjoyed watching Nascar.  He was a “dog” guy which included Samoyeds and Labradors.  They were his buddies.  Kosy was also a sharp dresser.   He loved clothes and wore them well.

Family meant the world to him and he meant the world to his family.  His strong Greek ties would bring him back to Price for the Greek Festival and to visit his extended family and friends.  He was also a very important part of his large extended family in Southern California, rarely missing an occasion to get together.

Kosy is survived by his wife, Roselyn; his brothers, Tony (Dim Nichols) and Jimmy;  cousins, Art Nickas (Maggie), Vera Nickas, Sylvia Dewey, Eugene Protopappas, Michael Protopappas, and Steve Protopappas (Josie); Godson, Brad Nichols; and his large extended family.  His many cousins and St. George neighbors will miss him dearly.
