Last weekend the first round of the 3A State Championship Soccer Tournament began at home sites. Entering the tournament at No. 21 the Emery Spartans traveled to Delta to face the No.12 Rabbits. Delta held the Spartans scoreless taking the match 7-0 and ending the Lady Spartans season.

The Spartans ended the regular season with a 3-14 record landing them towards the bottom of the RPI rankings.

Delta jumped out early in the first half finding the back of the net three times. The Rabbits added four more goals in the second half taking the victory and moving forward in the tournament.

Sophomore Meg Neilson led the way for the Rabbits with seven goals in the win. Muren Clark, Kate Smith, Caitlin Allred and Elizabeth Finlinson each had on goal for Delta, who will now face Manti in the second round.

The Spartans head into the off season with a large portion of their roster members of the class of 2022. The underclassmen will need to step up and take the program over for the next season.
