The USU-Extension 4-H programs are a great way for kids to learn hands-on skills through the various programs that the organization offers. 4-H Coordinator, DeLayna Barr stopped by Castle Country Radio to talk about the upcoming classes that will be available to join.

“We’re going to have our Discover Club start again. Discover Club is for third through fifth graders and Discover Club will be every Thursday. We’re going to have two sessions this time. We’re going to have a 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm session and also a 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm, we’re finding that works out better for parents,” said Barr. A parent meeting will be held on January 13 at 1:00 pm in the 4-H Classroom at the USU Extension Office on 751 East 100 North, Suite 1700 in Price. The Discover Club is set to begin on February 3 and the cost is $15.00 per child.

There will be a Sixth Grade Club that will start on January 18 with a Parent Meeting scheduled to take place on January 4 at 1:00 pm at the 4-H Classroom. “The Sixth Grade Club is also going to be parent-ran and sixth grade you can do a little bit more, they can have a little bit more intense making soda pop lamps, anything they also want to do. Again, we ask parents to do one meeting out of all of them and just give these kids a cool new experience, help them find their spark,” said Barr. The Sixth Grade Club will meet twice a month at 4:00 pm at the 4-H Classroom.

The 4-H Program is excited to be offering a new club this year called the Entertainment Production Club. This is for students ages 12 to 18 years of age and will be an 8-week course set to begin on January 19. 4-H Leader, Kenneth Driggs explains what students will learn, “So the Entertainment Production Club is about letting kids get their hands on concert production equipment, and video production equipment, music production, audio recording, all kinds of the stuff that we use in the entertainment industry to do either live performances or video content.” Club members will first learn the tools, then be allowed opportunities to produce their own content. This is definitely a hands-on course that will allow students to learn a new skill.
