The USU Extension Office, along with Price River Watershed Conservation District are hosting the annual Castle Valley Crop School on Wednesday, February 2 from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm. This free event is open to anyone in the agricultural field and it will take place at the Jennifer Leavitt Student Center on the campus of USU Eastern.

“We’re glad to be able to offer this back in person again for the first time in a couple of years. Basically, we tailor this to kind of growing issues or things that we notice people could use, use some information on. So after we get through our little trade show area, we have some guest speakers. So our first speaker will be somebody with the NRCS, talking about the Conservation Stewardship Program which is a cost share program to extensionally create better working farms,” stated Agriculture Agent, Steve Price. All the information shared by guest speakers is sure to help in daily agriculture practices.

Some topics up for discussion is weed management in no till crops by Dr. Matt Yost and management considerations for no-till with Dr. Earl Creech. “No-till it’s essentially a way of putting your seed into the ground for a crop that you not actually tilling over the dirt. We have some specialty machines that can put the seed right where it needs to go, without having, you know, the big plows and coat packers everything out there and we actually see in some cases it can increase yields,” explained Price. Following the discussions guests will be able to ask any questions they may have about the presentations.

Registration for the Castle Valley Crop School is currently taking place.  “So we will be providing dinner that night. So after our trade show we’ll have a dinner for people so we need to get a head count for that. So we are asking people to RSVP by January 28. You can either call us at your local Extension Office or you can also call Julie Weber with the Conservation District and we’ll get you on the list,” stated Price.
