The Pinnacle Panthers welcomed the Green River Pirates to Price Friday night for a Region 23 match-up.  The Panthers used big second and third quarters to pull away from the Pirates taking the 54-33 win, putting the Panthers at 2-0 in conference play.

The Pirates have gotten off to a rough start this season losing their first three. The only win for the Pirates came on December 8 against Mount Vernon Academy and they now find themselves with a 1-12 record and sitting in the final spot in the UHSAA RPI.

The Panthers started out quietly putting up eight points in the first, but in the middle quarters exploded for 15 in the second and 23 in the third.

Cole Barton for the Panthers led all scorers with 26 points and 13 rebounds. Michael Schmitz added 10 and grabbed eight boards and Jonathan Kessler scored eight and also collected eight assists, seven steals and seven rebounds.

For the Pirates, Raul Mendoza scored 13. Joe Vollmer six and Ryker Meadows five in the loss.

In a side note, the Green River and Pinnacle girls were also schedule to play on Friday but their game has been rescheduled to February 17.

The Green River boys will face Wayne at home on Wednesday in a non-region meeting. Wayne has a record of 2-8 and holds the No. 18 spot in the RPI.

Pinnacle is sitting at 6-6 overall and the No. 16 position in the RPI, they will hit the court again on Friday Night when they will welcome Whitehorse to Price. Whitehorse will come in with a 7-7  record sitting at No. 8.

The game with Whitehorse is set for a 7 p.m. tip-off.
