The Carbon School District weekly update brings attention to Mont Harmon Middle School and Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with school counselors, Randi Leonard and Jessica Fasselin to talk about what is taking place at the school.

School counselors are assisting the eighth graders to transition to the high school next year by allowing them to pre-register for courses. “First thing that we have coming up is the eighth graders will meet individually with their parents and a counselor, and we just get them ready for high school. We talk about classes, and clubs, and all the things that Carbon has to offer,” said Leonard. Also, the counselors briefly mention college options that will be available when students complete high school. The entire eighth grade will be allowed to visit the high school for a day to become familiar with the inner workings at the high school.

The school will be hosting parent/teacher conferences next month. “They’re going to be at the end of February so everybody will be able to come. We are having in-person from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm, and then will have an online option from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm for those parents who can’t make it in or don’t feel comfortable coming in,” said Fasselin. The entire seventh grade, along with their parents will meet prior to the in-person meetings to go over their options to continue on to eighth grade next year. Further details of the seventh-grade meeting will come at a later date.

The school wide spelling bee is coming up and students are excited to participate. “So we’ve got the spelling bee coming up, so all of our kids they start in their classrooms. They do classrooms spelling bee, and then they move to a school wide spelling bee, where they will all get in there and get her done,” said Fasselin. The school will also be hosting their annual talent show for students to perform a talent which is scheduled near Valentine’s Day.
