fly-tying-clinic

The Division of Wildlife Resources (DWR) will be hosting an introductory Fly-Tying Clinic on Friday, February 4 at 5:30 pm at the DWR office at 319 North Carbonville Road in Price. Castle Country Radio was able to speak over the telephone with Conservation Outreach Manager, Aaron Bott about the details of the upcoming clinic.

“We’re pretty excited because we’ve partnered up with one of our local fishing experts. He has fished all the waterbodies; he knows the water conditions for everything around the Energy Loop and beyond. This is the perfect time of year to really get into this hobby, while we’re thinking about fishing, let’s start preparing to get ready to go fishing,” said Bott. The instructor is very knowledgeable and is eager to share his expertise in fly-tying with clinic participants.

Due to the instruction and hands-on experience participants will receive, the event organizers had to put a cap on the class to only allow ten participants. “We have availability for ten people to register for this event online at https://www.eventbrite.com/ and for those ten lucky people who will register will have the equipment, the materials provided by the Division of Wildlife so all you got to do is come with your curiosity and be ready to learn,” said Bott. This clinic is free and will cover what equipment is recommended, provide materials, setup and hands-on instruction on tying three tried-and-true patterns that every angler should know. Participants are welcome to bring their personal fly-tying equipment if they choose.

If you are unable to attend the clinic but are very interested in fly-tying techniques the clinic will be videoed and shared online. “We wanted to make this accessible for everyone that can’t register. So we’re going to record this, then we’re going to upload it on our YouTube channel pretty shortly after February 4. So if you can’t register, don’t’ worry, by the next week we should have this online and you can learn how to tie-flies from the comfort of your home,” said Bott.
