The Carbon girls basketball team welcomed the Manti Templars to Price on Friday night for the second round of the 3A State Championships. The Lady Dinos started quietly but came on strong in the second half to take the 44-39 win and moving on to Weber State next week for the quarterfinals.
Finishing the regular season in the No.8 spot in the RPI meant that Carbon received a first round bye, so the game against Manti was the first post-season contest for the Dinos.
The first half of the game was close but by halftime the Dinos cut the Templar lead to just one.
In the second half the Dinos started to make their push to get the lead and move on to the the next round as they outscored the Templars, hitting free throws when it mattered at the end of the fourth quarter.
Amiah Timothy led all scorers with 15 points also grabbing five rebounds , Beverly Lancaster put up an eight point effort while grabbing six rebounds and three steals. Madi Orth also scored eight with five boards.
For the Templars, Sharlie Alder had 14 while Charlee Mandel and Heidi Jorgensen both scored nine in the loss for Manti.
Carbon will now face the No.1 team in 3A, the Judge Memorial Bulldogs, who entered the state playoffs with an unblemished record. After their win on Friday against Juan Diego they sit at 23-0.
The contest with Judge Memorial will take place on Thursday at 7:30.
