Last May in the 3A state playoffs, the Dinos lost to the Manti Templars 8-7 in extra innings, and since then Carbon has been waiting.  Tuesday was the day and the Dinos were ready, jumping on the Templars in the first and this time came out on top by a score of 8-3.

In talking with the players early in the season, next to Grantsville, the game with Manti was the next one they were getting ready for, saying, “We owe them.”

Carbon didn’t waste time, putting five runs on the board in the bottom of the first inning, and keeping the Templars scoreless for the first two innings while building the lead. Haven Byerly earned the win on the mound getting the complete game win, giving up three earned runs on five hits while striking out nine.

Offensively, Gia Bruno went 3-4 for the Dinos and Gracie Vasquez collected three RBI’s. Byerly helping her own cause, added two RBI’s along with three other Carbon players who added an RBI each.

The Lady Dinos sit at 8-3 overall with wins over teams out of their classification like Pleasant Grove, Hurricane and Pine View and with wins on the schedule against Grantsville and now Manti, they will head into the region part of the calendar starting Friday against the Richfield Wildcats.

Last season the Wildcats went 7-22 losing in the one loss bracket to Delta. Richfield has seven players returning from last season and second year coach Janell Johansen is excited about the contributors that will be coming back.

The game Friday will be on the road and the Dinos will be home again on on Tuesday as they welcome the Grand County Red Devils.

Game time is set for 3:30.
