Canyon View High School hosted the Region 12 track and field championships on Tuesday and Wednesday.  In the final meet before the 3A State Championships that take place next week at Brigham Young University, both Carbon and Emery participated with the Lady Dinos taking second place and the boy’s earning a third place finish. For the Spartans the boy’s team finished in fourth, and the Lady Spartans ended in fifth.

Both schools have made their way through the track season that started back in March and ten meets later, we’re just a week away from the season ending State Championships.

Carbon ended the two day event with seven region champions: Haylee Prescott in the high jump and long jump, Haley Garrish in the discus, Tymber Bennett in javelin, the girls 4×100 relay, Bowden Robinson in javelin and the boys sprint relay.

For Emery they brought three region champs home as Derek Canterbery brought home the top prize in the shot put and discus. Jess Christiansen claimed first in the boy’s 3200 meter.

In the lady’s competition, it was host school Canyon View who grabbed the top spot with 231.5 points, the Lady Dinos finished second, scoring 177.  Richfield, Grand and Emery rounded out the top five.

Carbon’s Lindsie Fausett grabbed a third place finish in the 1600 meters with a time of 5:41.21, this was just the start for Fausett, who along with team mates Lyndee Mower, Rebecca Swasey and Mia Crompton finished in second place in the sprint medley relay turning on a time of 4:40.52. The Lady Spartans team of Aspen Hansen, Aliya Lester, Rileigh Meccariello and Addie Lester came in fourth with a time of 5:00.28. In the 3200, the Lady Dino’s Ambree Jones claimed a third place and Fausett finished right behind in fourth.

Crompton was also part of the first place finishing Carbon 4×100 team of Eminie Elliot, Prescott and Mower who turned in a time of 50.88.

Individuallly, Carbon’s Elliot and Jespersen finished the 100 meter hurdles in third and fourh place. In the 300 meter hurdles Jespersen crossed the finish for third and Kinlee Lewis fourth.

For the boy’s it was Richfield that finished in first with 194, host school Canyon View came in second with 129. Carbon, Emery and Grand made up the remainder of the top five.

Carbon’s team of Ashton Ferguson, Easton Humes, Nathan Hobbs and Braxton Ware earned the top finish in the sprint medley relay turning in a time of 3:52.29. It was Emery’s Jess Christiansen and his time of 9:53.76 that allowed him to claim the top spot in the 3200 meter.

Throwing events were good to both Carbon and Emery with the Dino’s Bowden Robinson grabbing first in the javelin and the Spartans Derek Canterbery finishing in second. Canterbery took the top spot in the shot put with Carbon’s Bradley Wood earning a second place mark. It was also Emery finishing 1,2 in the discus with Canterbery taking first and Maddox Christman second. Carson Shepard of Carbon finished third.
