Creekview Elementary was highlighted on this week’s Carbon School District weekly update so Principal Keith Palmer stopped by Castle Country Radio to discuss what’s been taking place at the school.

School is coming to a close and will be out for summer break in two weeks. There have been some grades that have gone on field trips or are planning to go. “Starting with certain grades, kindergarten goes on their field trips today, and I’m sure when I get back there will be busses sitting there ready to go. Second grade is gone and day by day it seems like somebody’s is missing every day, if they’re on a field trip or the park, they’re off and doing things,” said Principal Palmer. Parents will receive information on upcoming field trips as they become closer to the day.

Although the school is preparing for the end of the academic year, they are also preparing for another seven weeks of summer school. “Parents should have received a message Monday night from the district that they can use to sign-up but we’re also sending it out, especially inviting kids that we think would really benefit from the experience and really making sure they know. We know that the registrations are already coming in just since Monday and so we’re excited about that again,” said Principal Palmer. Summer school will be offered June 13 through, July 25, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays for seven weeks, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. Any parents who wish to have their child participate in summer school may contact the school at (435) 637-0828.

Reading levels has been a huge focus this year at all the schools in the district. The fifth graders at Creekview Elementary have made great strides in improving their reading skills before moving on to Middle School next year. “Eighty-five percent of our fifth grade is going to go to Middle School on level. We think it’s just a testament of year after year of doing this and we think this is part of it. That they’re going to not fall backwards and have to gain again, they’re going to keep gaining, and that’s really exciting,” said Principal Palmer. Parents are encouraged to continue to have their students read over the summer months.
