The Price City Library is gearing up for their Summer Reading Program which is sure to provide the entire summer with fun activities and resources geared around this year’s theme. Castle Country Radio was able to speak over the telephone with Library Coordinator, Tawnya Kulow to discuss all the details.

“This year is Ocean of Possibilities and so of course it’s oceaned themed activities that we have planned for the summer reading. We have three different age groups and great activities that will be happening once a week for each of these groups,” stated Kulow. The groups will be split up by toddler to 4 years old, then 5 to 7 years old, and then final group will be fourth through ninth graders.

The participants will learn all things having to do with Ocean of Possibilities. “We have a lot of different crafts that are going to be oceaned themed – some mermaids, octopus, some of those for the younger children. For the older children, we’re going to learn how to tie some knots when you’re out on a boat and also, we’re going to be making some boats out of popsicle sticks and seeing if we can get them to float in the ditch and see how well we can do there. That’s just a few of them,” said Kulow. The Summer Reading Program will begin on June 1 and run through till July 27. There is no fee to participate in the program but there is a deadline to get signed up. Any parents that wish to have their child participate in the Summer Reading Program need to call the library at (435) 636-3188 on or before Tuesday, May 31.

A Chess Program meets regularly at the library to play games. “Another really popular program right now is the Chess Program that we have a gentleman come in, he’s retired, and he comes every Thursday at 4:00 pm and anyone is welcomed to come in and play chess. At first, it was kind of slow going but now we have quite a few young teens come in and they’re learning how to play chess,” explained Kulow. Anyone is invited to attend the Chess Program, its open to all ages.
