Eleven student-athletes from both Carbon and Emery High Schools were recently awarded Academic All-State honors for the Spring sports season by the Utah High School Activities Association. This award celebrates those that have excelled in both the classroom and on the field of play. All student-athletes that maintain a 4.0 GPA qualify. The Academic All-State award is decided by either meeting an index score (view here) or having a 4.0 unweighted grade-point-average.

Jackson Griffeth and Jackson Smith of the Carbon soccer squad were named to the list as both were great contributors to the team this season. Griffeth found the back of the net nine times adding five assists this season and Smith put three in the net and added one assist.

Chewy Sharp of the Emery baseball team earned his second Academic All-state honor of the year, his first coming in football.

Softball teams for both schools were well represented with three players from Emery and two from Carbon. Brynlei Luke, Cambrie Jensen and Madisyn Childs earned the honor for the Lady Spartans. This was the third honor for Childs who had two other mentions this season for volleyball and basketball. The honor for Jensen is the second of the school year, the first coming in swimming this past winter. Luke also earned the award for volleyball this year.

Gianna Bruno and Stevie Oman were the members of the Dino softball team named to the list, this was also Oman’s second award this school year the first one was for basketball.

In track and field two Spartans and one Dino made the cut. For Emery, Jess Christiansen earned his second honor of the year in track, his first was for cross country. For the Lady Spartans Brynn Gordon earned her third Academic All-State award for the 2021-22 school year in track and field, her other two nods were in volleyball and basketball.

Kobe Cruz was the only member from the Carbon Dino track team to make the list. This was his second award with his first one coming in cross country.

Congratulations to all those that made this year’s Academic All-State teams.
