The Republican Primary Election is set to take place on June 28 and there is some important information that voters need to know about. Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with Carbon County Clerk, Seth Marsing to discuss some important dates for voters.
“I think in the past we had people with a little bit of confusion about why there was only a Republican Primary, this year the reason is that, and the same as in previous years, is that there are only Republican candidates, enough that they need to have a primary to decide who goes to the general ballot. Other parties didn’t have enough candidates,” stated Marsing. There are rules that in order to vote in Republican Primary you must be registered, this was to be done by March 31. The one exception to this rule is if an individual is newly registered as a voter or an unaffiliated voter, you can affiliate with the Republican Party up to election day.
If you are interested in being a part of the Republican Party, you can do so at the Carbon County Clerk’s Office. “Probably the easiest way is just through our office, you can come in get a registration and fill it out while you’re there. Even if you came in election day, and wanted to vote while you’re there, you can register, fill out a registration, and vote at that time or you can register on https://vote.utah.gov/ if you want to register online, you can do that too,” said Marsing. The website is very informative and can help to answer any questions you may have.
Voters need to know that there will be ballots mailed out next month so they should keep an eye out for them. “Our mail will send them out June 7, but they generally take three, four, five days to get out, so the 10th or 13th is probably good time frame. Past new legislation this year where they require a ballot box in each municipality. We’ll have one in each city office, say Price’s City Office because we’ve got one at the county inside and one outside that meets that requirement. So any of those locations you can drop off your ballot,” explained Marsing.
Any voters who may have questions about the Primary Election can contact the Carbon County Clerk’s Office at (435) 636-3221 or stop by their office at 751 East 100 North, Suite #1100.
