The KARB Kickin Country Annual Pie Auction took place Wednesday at the Castle Country Radio Studios. This event has been held for over 20 years and helps generate funds that stay local to assist cancer patients in Carbon, Emery and Grand Counties who have to travel to the Wasatch Front for cancer treatments and appointments with cancer specialists.
There were 45 pies donated by local businesses and community members. Local businesses also kicked in items to go with each of the pies to help bring up the value. The bidding kicked off at 9:00 am with KARB’s Dave Hocanson and Price City Mayor Mike Kourianos teaming up to get callers to call in to bid. The first pie was presented by Rueben’s BBQ which was a Peach Cobbler and was accompanied by lots of swag.
The items that were bundled with the delicious pies ranged from gift cards to local businesses in both Carbon and Emery counties, gift baskets, certificates to the Wave Pool, movie passes, various concert tickets and sports memorabilia.
The entire day featured numerous guests from the community. All the guests were able to bring their personal experiences to listeners during their on-air interviews to assist in upping the ante on the pies. Some guests shared their remarkable stories of hope with either coping or surviving cancer.
The funds earned stay local to assist residents in Carbon, Emery and Grand Counties that must travel to receive cancer treatments with $100.00 fuel cards, as well as towards the Thomas B Anderson scholarship fund that helps a student in either Carbon or Emery County who has had or has cancer to further their education.
