The Pirates were on the road in Junction on Wednesday as the 2022-2023 baseball season got underway. Traveling to take on Piute, Green River would have their hands full as they faced the defending 1A State Champion Thunderbirds. Unable to produce any offense the Pirates fell to Piute 10-0 in five innings.

Green River returned all but two players who were on last years team that were eligible to play this season. Devan Meadows takes over as the head coach and Bryan Meadows returns as an assistant.

Piute put five runs up in the first inning, and then would go on to score a pair of runs in each of the next two innings.

Green River struggled offensively with Luis Hernandez getting the only Pirate hit in the fifth inning.

On the mound Ryker Meadows got the start going three innings giving up nine runs and striking out two. Cristian Venzor finished off the contest surrendering one run on two hits and struck out one.

The Pirates will be off until Tuesday when they will welcome the Wayne Badgers from Bicknell to town, game time is set for 3:00.
