The Green River Pirates began play last week when they opened on the road in Junction to face the defending 1A State Champions Piute, taking a 10-0 loss. On Tuesday they would get a chance to play in front of the home crowd for the first time this season when they welcomed Wayne to town. Wayne jumped out early and continued their push taking a 13-3 win.

The Wayne Badgers hail from Bicknell playing in the 1A South Region, the same region as the Pirates. Last season the Badgers enter the playoffs as the No. 4 seed losing to Bryce Valley in the quarterfinals.

The Badgers jumped out quickly putting five runs up in the first two innings, in fact they were up 8-0 going into the bottom of the fifth, when Green River got it’s first runs on the board as Ryker Meadows and Bridjer Meadows both stole home in the same at bat.

Green River put one more run up in the bottom of the fifth when Antonio Macias sent a double to right field that allowed Cristian Venzor to score from third.

Wayne wasn’t quite done yet as they would put up four more runs in the top of sixth to end the game 13-3.

Ryker Meadows went 2-3 scoring one run for the Pirates. Macias was 1-3 driving in one and Venzor was 1-2 scoring a run.

Green River sent six different pitchers to the mound With Venzor getting the start. Camden Anderson, Ryker Meadows, Bridjer Meadows, Jarrett Guerrera and Luis Hernandez combined for 13 runs (three earned) on eight hits and struck out five.

Green River will not take the field again until Tuesday August 17 to face Pinnacle in Price.

The game will take place at Carlson-Colosimo Field game time is set at 3:00 p.m..
