It was time once again to sit down with Director of Student Services, Kevin Hurst to discuss new scholarship process for 2023-2024 school year, the upcoming Blue Blast Block Party and the new Free Little Library Box on campus.

There will be a new process to obtaining a scholarship at USU Eastern beginning the 2023-2024 school year. “So typically for our academic awards there was two components to it, you had your high school GPA and your test score. Here in the state of Utah we did the ACT, moving forward so for the summer of 2023, you’ll no longer need that test score. You can still take it if you are interested, it might be applicable to other institutions but at USU Eastern for our academic scholarships we’re going to based them strictly on your high school GPA,” explained Hurst. The scholarship structure and the range will be a 3.0 through a 4.0, with a 4.0 a potential student could receive a full ride and from there a potential student could get a variety of different scholarships.

The officials at USU Eastern are excited to get students back on campus as they will begin to arrive on August 25 and will start courses on August 29. They will be hosting an event on August 25 for the students and for community members. “Our students are invited to move into the residents’ halls on August 25 and that afternoon/evening from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm we are going to do a Blue Block Blast Party. The community is invited, we would love to introduce our students to companies, restaurants, things that are available here in the Price area and make them aware of all the great opportunities we have,” stated Hurst. Any businesses or organizations that would like to be a part of this big event can contact USU Eastern at (435) 613-5468 to make arrangements.

USU Eastern is thrilled to offer book exchange boxes around the campus for those individuals who love to read. “It’s called a Free Little Library Box and we’re going to put one on our campus. So one of our professionals Liz Prettyman, has taken the lead on that, she really loves to read. You can register these on our website and they show maps of where they’re located and so we’re excited to have one on our campus. The essence is you can come exchange a book, you can take a book, and because we’re an institution of higher education, people might think I don’t want a math textbook, but yea, these are fictional books and so these are books that are fun to read,” said Hurst.  The Free Little Library Boxes will be located throughout campus so individuals in the community may utilizes the service too.
