Green River Pirate baseball has been back on the field since earlier this month and have not been able to lock one into the win column. Their last two games, a wild one against Pinnacle and then against Diamond Ranch did not work out in their favor with Pinnacle taking an 18-13 win and Diamond Ranch getting the better of the Pirates 6-2.

When it came to squaring up with the Pinnacle Panthers, the Pirates were down  16-2 heading into the top of the fifth. The Panthers had just put up twelve runs in the bottom of the fourth but Green River was not ready to give up. Bridjer Meadows got things going with a triple to center that brought home Antonio Macias, Luis Hernandez and Ryker Meadows. On the first pitch of the next batter Bridjer Meadows was able to score off of an error on the third baseman. Also in the inning Camden Anderson scored, first stealing third and then home. After a pitching change, Hoyt Hunt sent a single to short scoring both Raul Mendoza and Jarrett Guerrera. Jason Hernandez came up to bat next and Hunt was able to get from first base to third on an error from the Pinnacle catcher, putting the score at 16-10. Green River would put three more runs up in the sixth but that was as close as they would get.

Bridjer Meadows went 1-4 with a hit, four RBI’s and a run scored. Ryker Meadows was 1-2 with two runs and Hunt ended the game 1-3 with two RBI’s and a run scored.

On the mound it was Cristian Venzor with the start going three with four earned, two hits and three strikeouts. Guerrera came in and faced five batters and gave up five earned. Ryker Meadows went one inning, giving up five earned on five hits and Bridjer Meadows and Raul Mendoza came in to finish off the game.

Green River didn’t have long to think about the Pinnacle game because on Friday they would welcome the Diamond Ranch Academy Diamondbacks to Green River. Diamond Ranch is a school out of Hurricane.

The two teams played to a 2-2 score after one inning, the second and third innings were quiet with neither team able to produce any offense. Diamond Ranch added a pair of runs in the fourth and then one run in each of the sixth and seventh innings to finish off the Pirates.

Bridjer Meadows went 2-2 with an RBI for Green River. Mendoza, Ryker Meadows and Anderson each added a hit and Medoza also scored a run.

Ryker Meadows put in six strong innings of work giving up one earned runs on six hits and fanned five batters. Venzor came in going one, with one earned and one hit.

The Pirates will now head out on the road for three straight before they come back home on Aug. 31 to face Panguitch.

Next up for Green River is a road trip to Orderville to face Valley on Tuesday.
