The 2022 Green River Melon Days Celebration will begin on September 16 and run through till September 17 in Green River, Utah. This gathering is celebrating 116 years of delicious melons grown in this quaint little town in Emery County. Castle Country Radio had an opportunity to speak over the telephone with City Events Coordinator, Robin Hunt to discuss all the details of the celebration.
“So the whole community comes together, we have all kinds of events for you. Of course, we have the vendor fair there at the park all day long, and Saturday there will be farmers there cutting up melons for you guys to taste and enjoy. Also going on we have the Three-Man Scramble Golf Tournament and that’s Friday, September 16, which is always a fun tournament. Then we also have the softball tournament which is all weekend long, Friday, Saturday and often goes into Sunday,” said Hunt. There will also be Wild West Dancing at the park on Friday evening and folks don’t need to know how to dance because the gentleman conducting the event can show you how to line dance.
Saturday kicks off with a Melon Run 5K Run/Walk at 7:00 am and for more information and details call (775) 385-7277. “We also have the Melon Days Parade which you don’t want to miss; that’s got our iconic melon slice, giant melon slice that rolls down Main Street. That’s Saturday morning at 10:00 am and then we have the Melon Days Fun Shoot. You can go out to our gun range and shoot some melons. We also have a melon carving contest, Melon Days Photo Contest, and the Levi Blom Concert. So, there’s all kinds of things for you guys to do while you’re down here,” explained Hunt. The concert will begin at 5:00 pm and run till 7:00 pm on the city park.
