Lady Spartan volleyball headed into Region 12 play on Thursday night as they welcomed the Richfield Wildcats to the Spartan Center.  Emery had put together a 6-7 record in non-conference play, but when the Wildcats came to town it was a struggle falling in the region opener 3-1.

Emery, winners of four of their last seven, sit at No. 14 in the latest RPI posting a 6-8 overall record. Region 12 is not an easy place to play with four of the top teams in 3A residing in the same region as the Spartans.

Richfield, No.11, came out taking a victory in the first set 25-17. The Lady Spartans battled back in set two with a 25-18 win. The next two sets, though hotly contested, went to the Wildcats however, 27-25 and 25-23.

The Spartans now enter the region portion of their schedule as they head to Canyon View to face the No. 10 Falcons on Tuesday, September 20. With the exception of the Sevier Valley Tournament, the Spartans will go head-to-head with region opponents for the remainder of the season, with the RPI continually updated until the final bracket for the the 3A State Championship Tournament is revealed on October 19, with the playoffs beginning on Oct. 22.

Thursday, the Dinos will come to Castle Dale. Last season, Emery won both meetings with the Dinos 3-0 and 3-1.
