The tennis season came to an end last weekend for both the Carbon and Emery teams at the State Championships in Salt Lake at Liberty Park. Carbon started at the season back on Aug. 8, and Emery got things kicked off on Aug. 11.

Morgan finished in the top spot on the team side with 53 points. Rowland Hall, Grantsville, Juab and North Sanpete rounded out the top five. Carbon finished with 8 points and Emery ended with three.

For Carbon, first singles Lindsey Snow blew thorough her round of 16 match and her quarters match. In her semi-finals match she faced Sophie Baker of Rowland Hall. Baker earned the 6-0, 6-0 straight set win. Baker would go on to claim the State Championship for first singles.

Lizzy Blackburn, in second singles, fell in her round of 16 match-up with Emma Christensen of Manti, 7-6 (7-5) 6-0. Ella Anderson, in third singles, lost her first match to North Sanpete’s Kambrielle Grasteit, 6-4 and 6-4.

The first doubles team of Hannah Luddington and Isadora Netto won their first match against Annalee Buck and Emmalyn Hymas of American Heritage Academy 3-6, 6-2 and 7-5.  They would move on to face Tylee Henrie and Hallie Henrie of North Sanpete, falling in the quarters 6-3 and 6-3.

In second doubles, Lyndie Richardson and Audrey Hatch lost their opening round match with Lucy Tripp and Brylee Adams of  Morgan, 6-2 and 6-0. Tripp and Adams would go on to claim the State Championship in second doubles.

Carbon finished the regular season with an 8-1 record and finished a perfect 8-0 in region play and the end of the regular season tournament, earned the Region 12 Championship.

Emery’s only entry in state competition Brooklyn Ekker and Aspen Taylor in first doubles, earned a round of 16 victory against Rylee Ludlow and Leah Thorn of Juab,6-7 (7-4), 6-3 and 7-5. In their quarterfinal match with Addy Butler and Madison Bolinder of Grantsville, the duo from Emery fell, 6-0 and 6-3.

Emery’s record at the end of the season was 3-5 and they held an identical record in region play.
