The Lady Pirates volleyball squad has navigated it’s way through this season and now prepares for the final two games before the playoffs start. In their last three against Monument Valley, Bryce Valley and Escalante they earned a 1-3 record, and will be looking to get on the winning side of things against Pinnacle and in another contest with Monument Valley, this week.

In the contest with the Monument Valley Cougars at the beginning of the month, the Pirates came out in the first two sets 25-19 and 25-10, but after that it was all Monument Valley 25-14, 25-22 and 15-9. Monument Valley is the No. 7 team in 1A with a record of 6-1.

Next game up for Green River was against the No. 19 Bryce Valley Mustangs (3-17). The Lady Pirates grabbed the win in the first set 25-18. The Mustangs would come back in set two and claimed the 25-23 win. The Pirates took over after that with a 25-18 win in set three and a 25-15 victory closing out the Mustangs 3-1.

In the game last Friday Green River faced Escalante on the road. This was the second meeting between the two teams, in the initial game, the Moquis took the match in straight sets. In the contest on Friday it was unfortunately more of the same with the No.6 team in the state taking another win 25-18, 25-17 and 25-22.

The regular season for Green River comes to and end this week, with a pair of road games at Monument Valley on October 12 and at Pinnacle on Oct. 13.

The Pirates sit at 4-10 this season and are in the No.15 spot. On October 19, the UHSAA will release the final RPI for this season as well as the bracket for the 1A State Championships which will begin on Oct. 22 at home sites.
