This week’s Carbon School District update shines a spotlight on Bruin Point Elementary where Principal Connie Todachinnie spoke over the telephone about the school’s penny drive, a Veteran’s Day event and upcoming testing.

The school recently held their annual Penny Drive to help earn money for upcoming school events and activities. This year the goal was for the entire school to raise money together and meet several goals along the way to win incentives.  “There were several goals but one of the goals was if we reached our $500.00 mark that we would have a magician come in, and he came in, and it was hilarious, and so much fun. That came during Red Ribbon week. Then the other goal was to have a Witches Brew Station during our Halloween parade and they made that goal. So that was a $1,000.00 goal and that’s as far as we got,” said Principal Todachinnie. Had the students met their final goal of $1,500.00 they would have been able to squirt ketchup and mustard on the faculty members during an assembly. Overall, the school raised a substantial amount of funds that will assist them in several yearlong events and activities.

Veterans Day is coming up and the school gets to experience a flag retiring ceremony with a couple of Veterans who are on staff at the school. “We are going to retire our old flag here; we bought a new one. I’m not really sure, I’m kind of excited to see what we’re going to do Mr. Behn and Mrs. Sanderson are going to guide our school. It will be really interesting. It’s really neat, you know our kids, they have a lot of patriotism in them, they’re really, really good kids and I think this will be a really good learning experience for them,” stated Principal Todachinnie. The students will learn the importance of properly and respectfully disposing of a flag.

Although school seems like it just started its already time to start preparing students for mid-year testing in December. “We start actually before Christmas break again and then we start testing the end of or the middle of April for end-of-the-year testing. But yea, this is where our biggest growth in learning happens is between November and February. It just seems that’s where we’re able to push our students just a little harder and they grow a little bit more, a lot more actually,” explained Principal Todachinnie. As the school said this is a critical time to be learning so school attendance is very important.
