Carbon Caring for Kids is preparing for school holidays with the Thanksgiving and Christmas breaks coming up and they are in need of donations. Coordinator, Marcie Loveless took time to come into Castle Country Radio to talk about the “Meal Kits” needed for the holiday breaks.
“So for Thanksgiving and Christmas, and they are going to be one right after another because they are so close to each other, but we actually have families, groups, individuals sign up to sponsor a child. So we are feeding 147 kids here in Carbon County and in Emery County, I believe they’re like at 80-90. But you sign up to sponsor a child, and then there’s a list of food items that you and your family or your group or whoever, goes out and buys those items, and then you assemble that kit in your home and you bring us the kit already assembled,” stated Loveless. Then on the assembly day the organization just adds bread, fruits/vegetables, and milk to the kits. They will have bags that donations will be transferred over to so that all items will be delivered to the children in one kit.
If you are unable to sponsor an entire kit for a child during the holiday breaks you can help during the week with the weekend kit items. “So all the food in our kits is something that a child can open up and eat. So we’re looking at the microwaveable Chef Boyardee little cups, we give them as dinners. We do fruit cups, apple sauce cups, there’s granola bars, there’s all of the individual package snacks. We do give fruits, apples or oranges in the kits as well. Then little peanut butter and jelly little packets to have them make sandwiches. We give them cereal with the little Gosner shelf-stable milk as well. So everything that we give is something for every meal for Saturday and Sunday for the weekend and then a couple of snacks,” explained Loveless. You can see a list of the items needed for the week by visiting the Carbon Caring for Kids Facebook page.
There are many donation drop-off locations in town where you can swing by and deliver your food donations. “My address and everything is on our Facebook page of Carbon Caring for Kids. But there are a couple of drop-off points around town, Loveless Ash Dustless Technologies have one in front of theirs, Carbon Print and Design I believe still have a box or they’ll take it and then they’ll let me know when they have it, and I think Jake Mellor Financial has one as well,” said Loveless. If you are unable to make a food donation but would like to help the cause with a monetary donation you may do so my Venmo.
