Harold Bruce Fish, age 81, passed away on Monday, November 14, 2022 surrounded by family.

He was born January 2, 1941 in Ferron, Utah to Harold and LaRene Fish. He graduated from South Emery High School and then attended the College of Southern Utah.

He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Far East Mission from 1963-1966, speaking Japanese. Upon his return he attended BYU where he met Dixie Hughes. They were married June 3, 1967 in the St. George Utah Temple. Bruce graduated from BYU two months later and began teaching fourth grade in Granger, Utah.

Bruce and Dixie started their family in the Salt Lake Valley, but Bruce longed to be closer to his mother. They moved to Ferron, Utah in 1976, building a home in the pastures next to his mother’s home. He was a good teacher and taught for 30 years before retiring in 1997. He spent 20 years of his career at Ferron Elementary.

He has spent his life teaching, coaching, refereeing, umpiring, gardening, mowing lawns, pruning trees, playing in the yard, helping with scout trips, and hauling kids to church activities and tournaments. After retiring from teaching, he spent much of his time gardening, canning fruit, working in the yard, and walking the highway collecting aluminum cans. One of his greatest highlights was renting a cabin and spending time with his entire progeny in Yellowstone National Park for his 50th wedding anniversary.

He is survived by his wife, Dixie Fish; children, LaVell Fish, Chris and Audrey Fish, Gaylen and Erin Fish, Alvin and Audrea Fish, Gina and Ted Gubler, Cher and David Straham; many cousins, grandchildren, one brother, in-laws, and three great grandchildren, with one on the way.

Preceded in death by his parents; and son, Wes Fish, who died on June 7, 2001.

Bruce’s family would like to thank the many doctors, nurses, and Emery County Care Center (San Rafael Health and Rehabilitation) for their devotion and kind care.
